Did you know that there are currently five (5) generations within the church? With each of these generations comes a particular set of needs and wants concerning church life. I will give you a few examples. Barna Research has released research on several of the generations and their involvement with church. One piece of research released by Barna indicates that liturgical worship is significantly more important to the Boomer and Traditionalist generations than to the Gen X and Millennial generations. In another piece of research it was discovered that the only piece of information a sizable majority of Millennials is comfortable sharing with a church is their first name. And among our youngest church attendees, Generation X, discipleship that answers the significant questions of faith, while not forcing them to act, look or think just like us, is essential. These are just a few of the great many pieces of generational characteristics we could identify.
While the church cannot cater to all of the desires of every generation, we can and should consider these requirements and ask ourselves—what are we doing to help make the Gospel accessible to every generation? What barriers, boundaries and walls must we tear down to minister across all generational lines? As we consider these questions, we must take into consideration many factors—our ministries, our services, our staff needs, and our facilities.
This Sunday evening at 5:00 PM in the Sanctuary we will be holding a Special Called Family Business Meeting to present a possible remodel of the East Foyer, Choir Room, and Parlor. The request that will be made to you, our church family, has come about by much prayer and consideration of the needs of our facility. This plan will make much better use of our space and create a more welcoming environment for all who walk through our doors. I know you will come to this meeting Sunday night with an open mind and heart to consider the presentation of this possible remodel. This will be a vital step forward in being the loving, friendly, welcoming church FBC has been and must continue to be for our future.
I Love You, Church!
