Linda Lowber

Director of Adult Education/Assimilation

Ministry Experience:

Director of Adult Education and Assimilation of First Baptist Church, McAlester, for 6 years, Director of Children’s Ministries for 5 ½ years, Director of Preschool Ministries and Weekday Director of King’s Kids Learning Center for 3 years.

Education:

Linda graduated with a B.A. Degree in Home Economics from Oklahoma State University, and has completed one year of studies in counseling from East Central University.

Personal Information:
Linda and her family moved to McAlester in 1987 and have been members of First Baptist Church since then.  She and her husband, Mike, have been married for 30 years.  They have one son, Adam, and daughter in law, Cheryl.  Adam and Cheryl are graduates of Oklahoma Baptist University, and Adam teaches Junior High Reading at Lewisville, Texas.  They are members of Fellowship Church.

Mike and Linda have two daughters. Anna is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and works at Wells Fargo in Oklahoma City.  Autumn is married to Travis Gunnells and they live in Oklahoma City.  Autumn is an Office Assistant at Quest Land Company and Travis works for the U. S. Army and is also taking pilot’s training at Oklahoma University. Mike is a deacon and is director of a young couples’ Sunday School class.  Mike is an independent insurance representative with Southern Financial Group.

Denominational Work:

Linda is currently president-elect of the Baptist Ministers of Education Association of the Baptist General Convention.  She has taken an active role with state Sunday School Tour across the state of Oklahoma to work with Sunday School Leaders.

Linda is Sunday School Director of the Pittsburg Baptist Association, and previously served as the Vacation Bible School Director of the Association.
 
Linda served with the Church Weekday Education organization as President, Workshop Chairman, and Area Representative.

Ministry Honors:

Received Darlene Koch Outstanding Children’s Director Award in 2001.

Hobbies:

Linda enjoys keeping up with her kids, reading, and yard work.

Fun facts:

Favorite Scripture: Psalm 37:4 “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires.”
Favorite Color: I like turquoise, but also love reds, blues, greens…..
Favorite Food: For snacks, I like mixed nuts and wheat thin crackers.  And I eat a little chocolate about every day.
Favorite Movie: It’s a Wonderful Life
Favorite TV Show: American Idol
Favorite Vacation spot: My favorite memory is of Hawaii.  Ah, those sunsets!
Where I grew up: Buffalo, Oklahoma.
As a child, I wanted to be: A wife and mom, and a good cook.
3 People I would most want to have lunch with: 1. Mike 2. My family (I know, this is more than 1 person!) 3. Too many girlfriends to name here!
Favorite sport: OSU Basketball
Favorite thing to do in spare time: Go shopping in a mall with my daughters.
iPod or CD Player? CD Player for now.
What’s in my CD Player: A recent Singing Church Women CD.
Star Wars or Lord of the Rings: Lord of the Rings
Letterman or Leno: Not a regular fan of either, just the HGTV Channel
Third Day or Mercy Me: Third Day
Puppies or Kittens: I have a cat by default, but I think I would prefer puppies.
Coke or Pepsi: I’m trying to stop diet coke!
One thing I want the world to know about me: I’m just a western Oklahoma girl that feels extremely blessed by the Lord in countless ways!
